미국 의회내 막강한 상원외교위원회 위원장인 조셉 바이든 의원이 차기 대통령 선거에 출마할 것이라고 발표했습니다.
바이든 위원장은 7일 한 텔레비전 방송과의 회견에서 이달 말까지 2008년 대통령 선거 출마 후보 등록을 위해 필요한 서류를 제출할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
바이든 의원은 민주당 소속으로 지난 11월 선거 결과 민주당이 의회를 장악하게 되자 상원외교위원회 의장이 됐습니다.
바이든 의원은 민주당내 수많은 대권 주자들과 경쟁을 치룰 수도 있습니다.
지난 2004년 민주당 부통령 후보였던 존 에드워즈 전 상원 의원은 지난달 28일 대선 출마를 발표했습니다. 에드워즈 전 의원의 대선 출마 선언은 아이오와 주의 톰 빌삭 주지사와 오하이오 주의 데니스 쿠치니치 하원의원의 출마 선언에 뒤이어 나왔습니다.
뉴욕주의 힐라리 로담 클린턴 연방상원의원과 일리노이주의 바락 오바마 상원의원도 민주당 대선 후보에 출마할 것으로 널리 예상되고 있습니다.

The chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Joseph Biden, has announced he will run for president.
In a televised interview today (Sunday), Biden said he will file the necessary paperwork to be a candidate for the 2008 race by the end of the month.
Biden is a member of the opposition Democratic Party. He became chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee when the Democrats gained control of the Congress in November.
Biden joins what may become a crowded field. Former Senator John Edwards, who was the Democratic candidate for vice president in 2004, announced his own candidacy December 28th. His declaration followed similar announcements from Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack and Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio. Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Barak Obama of Illinois are also widely expected to run for the nomination.
