3일 방글라데시 최대 야당인 ‘아와미 동맹’이 이끄는 막강한 14개 정당 연합은 1월 22일로 예정된 선거를 저지하겠다고 발표했습니다. 이 연합은 방글라데시 현 과도 정부가 과거 여당인 ‘방글라데시민족주의당’을 선호한다고 비난하고 있습니다.
하지만 이에 대해 ‘방글라데시민족주의당’은 ‘아와미 동맹’이 선거를 방해하려고 한다고 말하고 그럼에도 불구하고 자신들은 선거에 참여할 것이라고 말했습니다.
아와미 동맹은 오는 7일과 8일에 교통을 차단하는 항의 시위를 전개할 예정으로 있습니다.

Bangladesh's Election Commission says it will proceed with this month's planned general elections, despite a boycott by a major political alliance.
On Wednesday, the powerful 14-party alliance led by the Awami League announced a boycott of the January 22nd elections. The alliance accuses the interim government of favoring the former ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party says the Awami League is trying to sabotage the vote and it says it will take part in the elections, despite the boycott.
Last month, the Awami League demanded that the caretaker administration agree to some electoral reforms. But, the Awami League says those demands have not yet been implemented.
The Awami League has staged a series of protests that have turned violent in the run-up to the balloting. Another transportation blockade is scheduled for Sunday and Monday.
