천영우 본부장은 20일 참가국들이 9.19 공동성명 이행방안에 관해 북한과의 진지한 협의가 계속되고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
한편 6자회담 사흘째를 맞아 미국과 북한 수석대표들이 두번째 양자 접촉을 가졌습니다.
미국측 수석대표인 크리스토퍼 힐 국무부 동아시아태평양 담당 차관보는 20일 북한측 수석대표인 김계관 북한 외무성 부상과 회동한뒤 대화가 유익했다고 말했습니다. 힐 차관보는 그러나 이번 회담에서 진전이 이뤄질지 혹은 회담이 언제 마무리될지 분명치 않다며 신중한 자세를 보였습니다.
이와는 별도로 미국 재무부의 다니엘 글레이져 부차관보와 북한 조선무역은행 오광철 총재가 20일 중국주재 북한대사관에서 만나 대북한 금융제재와 관련한 두번째 실무 논의를 가졌습니다.

A South Korean diplomat says six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons program will continue in Beijing until Friday, a day later than originally planned.
South Korean envoy Chun Yung-woo says the parties held "substantive discussions" today (Wednesday) on how to implement a (September) 2005 agreement with North Korea.
Under the agreement, North Korea promised to abandon nuclear weapons in return for aid and security guarantees.
Chun says the delegates at the talks have so far gained a better understanding of the disagreements between them, but he did not cite any major progress.
On Tuesday, U.S. envoy Christopher Hill held a bilateral meeting with his North Korean counterpart, Kim Kye Gwan. Hill said today he had "good discussions" with Kim, but added that it is not clear where the talks are leading or how long they will last.
