영국 총리실은 블레어 총리는 수도 앙카라에서 레셉 타입 에르도간 (Recep Tayyip Erdogan) 터키 총리와 회담을 갖고 중동관련 현안들과 터키의 유럽연합 회원가입 추진 문제를 논의할 예정이라고 전했습니다. 총리실은 보안상의 이유로 블레어 총리의 다른 방문 일정을 공개하지 않았습니다.
블레어 총리는 이날 벨기에 브뤼셀에서 유럽연합 정상회의를 마친 뒤 터키로 출발했습니다. EU 정상들은 회의에서 시리아가 레바논에 대한 내정 간섭을 중단할 것을 촉구했습니다.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair is in Turkey, the first stop of a Middle East tour aimed at reviving the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
The prime minister's office says Mr. Blair is to meet in Ankara with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss Middle East issues and Turkey's hope for joining the European Union.
His office has not announced the other locations Mr. Blair will visit for security reasons.
Mr. Blair left for Turkey today (Friday) from Brussels, where he was attending a European Union summit.
At the Brussels meeting, EU leaders urged Syria to stop interfering in Lebanon's affairs, and noted what they called the negative impact of Iranian policies on the stability and security of the Middle East.
The EU leaders called called on Iran to play a "responsible role" in the Middle East.
