Japan's parliament has approved an educational reform bill aimed at injecting more patriotism into the country's schools.
The measure was approved today (Friday) in Japan's upper house. It had already been approved in the lower house.
Critics say the bill is reminiscent of Japan's pre World War Two education system, in which children were encouraged to sacrifice themselves for the emperor and nation.
The vote came after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's ruling coalition voted down a no-confidence motion against his government.
Four of Japan's opposition parties submitted the no-confidence motion against in a bid to block the passage of the controversial education bill.
