폴슨 장관은 14일 베이징에서 시작된 중국 관리들과의 미중 고위급 경제 회담에서 이같이 말했습니다.
폴슨 장관은 대여섯명의 미 각료급 인사들과 연방준비제도이사회(FRB)의 벤 버냉키 총재등으로 구성된 미국 대표단을 이끌고 현재 베이징을 방문하고 있습니다.
미국 대표단은 미국 기업들로부터 중국의 통화 정책과 시장 접근에 대해 강경책을 펼쳐야 한다는 압력을 받고 있습니다.
미국 정부는 중국의 위엔화가 실제 가치보다 저평가돼 중국산 수출품이 불공정하게 싼값에 거래돼 미국 회사들의 경쟁력을 가로막고 있다고 말하고 있습니다.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson has urged China to make its currency more flexible, at the start of high-level economic talks in Beijing.
Paulson is leading a U.S. delegation that includes several cabinet-rank officials and (Ben Bernanke,) the head of the Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank.
The delegation is under pressure from U.S. companies to take a hard line with China over the value of its currency and market access.
Washington says the yuan is being kept undervalued, making Chinese exports unfairly cheap and preventing U.S. companies from being competitive.
Paulson said today (Thursday) that his delegation also will urge China to crackdown on product piracy.
Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi says China is increasing imports to offset its trade surplus, and that the country is striving for a rough balance between imports and exports.
