러시아의 세르게이 라브로프 (Sergei Lavrov) 외무장관은 알렉산드르 리트비넨코 (Alexander Litvinenko) 전 러시아 정보요원의 독극물 사망사건을 둘러싼 논쟁이 러시아와 영국의 관계를 해치고 있다고 경고했습니다.
라브로프 장관은 4일 기자들에게 영국 관리들이 지난달 발생한 리트비넨코의 사망원인을 추측하고 이를 정치적으로 이용하는 것은 용납할 수 없다고 말했습니다. 라브로프 장관은 벨기에 브뤼셀에서 열린 유럽안보협력기구 (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) 회의에서 이같이 말했습니다.
한편, 영국의 존 리드 (John Reid) 내무장관은 영국 경찰이 리트비넨코의 사망사건을 수사하기 위해 러시아 모스크바로 출발했다고 밝혔습니다.
유럽위원회 회의에 참석하기 위해서 브뤼셀을 방문중인 리드 장관은 이날 기자들에게 9명의 영국 경찰요원들로 구성된 영국경찰단단은 리트비넨코가 사망하기 전에 그와 대화했던 목격자들을 면담할 예정이라고 말했습니다.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says controversy over the poisoning death of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko is harming relations between his country and Britain.
Lavrov told reporters today (Monday) it is unacceptable for officials to speculate and politicize last month's London death of the former spy. He spoke in Brussels where he is attending a meeting of Europe's top security organization (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe).
Elsewhere in Brussels, British Home Secretary John Reid says British police have left for Moscow to investigate the death.
He told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of European justice and interior ministers that a team of nine officers will interview witnesses who spoke to Litvinenko before he died.
Meanwhile, a lawyer (defense lawyer Yelena Lipster) for former Russian security officer Mikhail Trepashkin says the jailed officer has important evidence in the poisoning case. He says Trepashkin is willing to testify to Scotland Yard investigators.
