Palestinian officials say President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party and the ruling militant group Hamas are close to an agreement on forming a unity government. Mr. Abbas held talks late Monday in Gaza with Hamas officials in an attempt to finalize details of the new coalition government.
It is aimed at ending a suspension of aid to the Palestinian Authority that Western nations imposed after Hamas took power earlier this year. Meanwhile, medical workers in Gaza say Israeli forces have killed three Palestinians, including a teenage boy, in separate incidents today.
Also today, Israeli army officials say a Palestinian female suicide bomber blew herself up near Israeli troops in the northern Gaza Strip, wounding one soldier. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.
