영국과 독일 총리는 지구 기후변화에 대처하는 통일된 전략을 촉구하고 있습니다.
앙겔라 메르켈 독일 총리와 토니 블레어 영국 총리는 4일, 런던에서 정상회담을 마친뒤 공동 기자회견에서 지구 기후변화 문제는 세계의 가장 중대한 과제들 가운데 하나라는데 동감했다고 밝히면서 이같이 촉구했습니다.
메르켈 총리는 유럽이 기후변화 문제 해결을 선도해야 한다고 지적하고 기후변화협약 이행을 위한 교토의정서의 기한이 마감되는 2012년에 대비해 통일된 전략을 개발해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
한편, 이보다 앞서 세계은행의 니콜라스 스턴 전 수석 경제자문은 최근 기후변화 보고서에서 각국 정부들이 지구온난화를 억제하는 긴급조치를 취하지 않으면 전세계가 세계대전과 대공황 때의 규모에 해당하는 위기에 직면하게 될 것이라고 경고했습니다.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have called for a united strategy on climate change.
At a joint news conference Friday following their meeting in London, the two leaders said they agreed that climate change was one of the world's most important challenges.
Mr. Blair and Mrs. Merkel said they also discussed the German presidencies of the European Union and the Group of Eight in 2007.
Mrs. Merkel said Europe needs to take the lead to tackle climate change and develop a unified strategy for when the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012.
Mr. Blair said there is a real opportunity to make progress under Mrs. Merkel's leadership to reduce the emission of gases blamed for global warming. He said such progress could be made even without the participation of the United States, which did not ratify the 1997 Kyoto accord.
