9일, 수도 샤아브 지구 시장에서 벌어진 이 공격으로 적어도 스물 세 명의 부상자가 발생했습니다. 이보다 앞서 수니파 회교도인 타리크 알-하시미 부통령의 동생이 바그다드 자택에서 총격살해됐습니다. 암살자들은 작년에 알-하시미 부통령의 여동생과 또 다른 동생 한 명을 살해한 바 있습니다.
한편, 이라크 수도 바그다드 동남부 누마니야에서 3백50 내지 4백명의 이라크 경찰관들이 8일 집단식중독을 일으켜 몇 명이 사망하는 사태가 벌어졌습니다. 이라크군 관계관은 경찰관들이 군기지내 식당에서 식사를 한뒤 식중독을 일으켰다고 밝혔으나 사망자가 발생했다는 보도는 인했습니다.
이라크 경찰관들의 집단 식중독이 고의적인 것인지 여부는 밝혀지지 않고 있는 가운데 이 사건의 관련 용의자로 여러 사람이 구금됐습니다.

Iraqi officials say a car bomb has ripped through a busy Baghdad market, killing at least 10 people.
The evening attack in the Shaab neighborhood today (Monday) also wounded at least 23 others.
Earlier, assailants gunned down the brother of Iraq's Sunni Arab vice president. Amir al-Hashimi, who was killed in his Baghdad home, is the third sibling of Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi to be slain this year.
Shi'ite Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki condemned the killing.
Meanwhile, officials are investigating what caused the food poisoning that sickened hundreds of Iraqi police at a base southeast of Baghdad on Sunday.
An Iraqi military official (Qassim al-Moussawi) says 350 to 400 police fell ill after eating at the base in Numaniya.
It is unclear if the poisoning was intentional or an accident. Iraqi officials say several people have been arrested.
The U.S. military also announced a soldier died today in an attack in eastern Baghdad. Sunday, three Marines died from wounds sustained from enemy action in Al Anbar province.
