이라크 당국은 시아파 무장세력과의 치열한 전투로 70여명이 사망한 남부도시 디와니야를 다시 장악했다고 밝혔습니다.
누리 알-말리키 총리실은 28일 벌어진 이번 전투로 정부군 병사 23명과 무장괴한 50명이 사망했다고 말했습니다. 이 가운데는 민간인도 여러 명 사망한 것으로 전해졌습니다.
이번 충돌은 현지 정치지도자들이 과격한 시아파 성직자 모크타다 알-사드르에 충성하는 무장 세력들과 협상을 성사한 후 종결됐습니다.
한편, 디와니야에서는 송유관 폭발로 30여명이 사망하고 많은 사람이 부상했습니다.
희생자들은 폭발 당시 기름을 얻기 위해 송유관에 접근했을 지 모른다고 경찰은 밝혔습니다.
한편, 경찰은 바그다드에서 총에 맞은 후 버려진 시신을 적어도 20구 발견했다고 말했습니다.

Iraqi officials say authorities have regained control of the southern city of Diwaniyah, after fierce clashes with Shi'ite militiamen that claimed more than 70 lives.
The office of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki says 23 government soldiers and 50 gunmen were killed in the fighting Monday. Several civilians also were reported to have died.
The fighting ended after a deal was reached between officials and Shi'ite militiamen loyal to radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
Meanwhile, some 30 Iraqis were killed and a number of others wounded in a fuel pipeline explosion near Diwaniyah. The victims may have been trying to syphon fuel at the time of the blast.
In Baghdad, police say they found the bodies of at least 20 people who had been shot and dumped in the capital.
