일본은 버마 정부의 열악한 인권기록에도 불구하고 버마에 280만 달러를 지원할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
이번 지원금은 버마의 삼림계획을 지원하게 될 것이라고 일본 관리들은 말했습니다.
일본의 이번 지원은 인도주의 차원에서 이뤄진 것으로 버마가 민주화 지도자인 아웅산 수지씨를 석방하기 전에는 추가 지원은 없을 것이라고 프랑스 통신이 밝혔습니다.
버마 정부는 최근 수지씨에 대한 연금을 내년 5월까지 연장했습니다.

The French news agency says Japan made the aid available on a humanitarian basis and will not offer more until Burma releases pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest.
The government has just extended her detention until at least next May.
