남북한 적십자 관계자들은 이번 주에 회담을 갖고, 수 백명의 사망자가 발생한 북한의 홍수 피해 구조 노력에 관해 논의할 예정입니다. 남한 통일부는 17일, 양측이 오는 19일 북한의 금강산에서 만날 것이라고 말했습니다.
지난 주 남한은 북한의 홍수 피해자들을 돕는 독립적인 구호 단체들에게 천 만 달러 이상을 지원할 것이라고 발표했습니다.
북한에서는 7월 초에 태풍과 폭우 때문에 홍수가 발생했습니다. 북한은 수 백 명이 사망하거나 실종되고, 수 많은 건물들이 파손됐다고 공식 발표했는데, 북한의 그같은 발표는 전례가 드문 일이었습니다.
북한 당국자들은 처음에는 외국 구호 기관들의 제의를 거절했지만, 나중에 남한에게 공식적으로 도움을 요청했습니다.

Red Cross officials from North and South Korea are to hold talks this week to discuss relief efforts after flooding in North Korea killed hundreds of people. South Korea's Unification Ministry said today (Thursday) the two sides will meet Saturday at North Korea's Mount Kumgang.
Last week, South Korea announced it will provide more than 10-million dollars of support to independent aid groups helping flood victims in North Korea.
A typhoon and heavy monsoon rains caused the flooding in early July. Afterward, North Korea made a rare public announcement that hundreds of people were dead or missing, and tens of thousands of buildings were destroyed.
North Korean officials formally requested the help from South Korea after initially turning down offers from foreign relief agencies.
