미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관은 29일, 다시 중동으로 돌아가 이스라엘의 에후드 올메르트 총리와 회담하고, 레바논에서 이스라엘과 헤즈볼라 게릴라들간의 전투에 관해 논의했습니다.
라이스 장관은 이번 주 들어 이날 두번째로 이스라엘을 방문했습니다. 이스라엘 관계관들은 라이스 장관의 견해를 듣는데 관심을 갖고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 라이스 장관은 이스라엘에서의 회담을 마치면 다시 레바논을 방문해 레바논 관리들과 회담`할 계획입니다.
라이스 장관은 이날 기자들에게 두 나라 관계관들과의 회담이 쉽지 않을 것이라고 밝히고, 문제는 감정적인 것이라 아주 어렵다고 말했습니다. 미국의 조지 부쉬 대통령은 라이스 장관이 이번 중동순방을 오는 31일에 열리는 유엔안전보장이사회가 남부 레바논 다국적군 파견에 관한 수용가능한 결의안을 도출해 내도록 하는데 이용할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has returned to the Middle East and met with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to discuss the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon.
Rice arrived in Israel today (Saturday) for her second visit to the region this week. Israeli officials say they are interested in hearing her ideas. Following talks in Israel, Rice plans to meet with Lebanese officials.
Rice told reporters she expects tough talks with officials from both sides. She said the matter is emotional and difficult.
President Bush says Rice will use the trip to work toward an acceptable U.N. resolution for the Security Council to discuss when it begins talks Monday on a possible multinational force for southern Lebanon.
