미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관은, 이스라엘과 레반논간의 위기사태에서 즉각적인 정전은 문제의 근원을 다루지 않고서는 허위 약속 이상의 의미는 없을 것이라고 말했습니다.
라이스 장관은 21일 현 위기사태를 논의하기 위해 23일 중동 지역을 방문할 것이라고 말했습니다. 라이스 장관은 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 지역을 방문한 뒤레바논의 정치,경제,안보 문제를 논의하기 위해 이탈리아로 향할 예정입니다.
라이스 장관은 미국은 현 위기 사태를 종식하기 위한 방안을 긴급히 모색하고 있다고 말하고 그러나 정전은 현재 중동 지역에서 계속되고 있는 테러의 현상 유지로 돌아가는 것만 나타내게 될 것이라고 말했습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Lebanon crisis would be little more than a "false promise" without addressing the root cause of the problem.
Rice announced Friday that she is heading to the Middle East Sunday for talks on the crisis. She will visit Israel and the Palestinian territories, then travel to Italy to meet with a contact group to discuss helping Lebanon address its political, economic and security challenges.
The secretary said the United States urgently seeks an end to the violence, but she said a ceasefire would simply mark a return to a "status quo" of continued terrorism in the Middle East. Rice said the real goal is to create the conditions for stability and lasting peace.
