팔레스타인 목격자들은 이스라엘 탱크와 무장요원들을 태운 차량들이 16일 북부 가자 지역으로 진입한 뒤 공격을 가해 다른 여러 명도 다쳤다고 전했습니다.
베이트 하눈 마을에서는 과격 분자들을 태운 차량 한대가 이스라엘의 공습을 받았으나 이들 과격분자들은 무사했다고 목격자들이 전했습니다.
이스라엘은 군 병력에게 팔레스타인의 미사일 공격을 중단시키고 납치된 이스라엘 병사를 석방시키기 위한 노력으로 가자 지구로 복귀할 것을 명령했습니다.
이스라엘은 팔레스타인 과격분자들이 이스라엘 병사 한명을 생포하고 다른 두명을 살해한지 사흘 만인 지난 6월 28일 가자지구에 대한 공격을 시작했습니다.
이스라엘은 이들 공격은 생포된 이스라엘 병사를 안전하게 석방시키고 팔레스타인의 로켓 공격을 중단시키기 위한 것이라고 말했습니다.

In the Gaza Strip, Israeli troops have killed five Palestinian militants and one civilian during new military operations.
Palestinian witnesses say several others were injured in the strikes, after Israeli tanks and armored personnel carriers crossed into northern Gaza today (Sunday).
An Israeli airstrike also hit a vehicle carrying militants in the town of Beit Hanoun, but witnesses said the men were unharmed.
Israel's military ordered troops to return to Gaza in an effort to stop Palestinian missile attacks and retrieve a kidnapped Israeli soldier.
Israel started its offensive in Gaza on June 28th, three days after Palestinian militants captured an Israeli soldier and killed two others. Israel said it intends to secure the release of the captured soldier and stop Palestinian rocket fire.
