무타나주는 지난 2003년 미국 주도의 이라크 침공이 있은후 가장 평온한 북부의 쿠르드지역을 제외하고는 이라크인들의 통제로 완전히 넘어가는 최초의 주입니다.
한편 백악관은 이날, 미국의 부쉬 대통령이 오는 7월 25일 워싱턴에서 멀리키 총리와 정상회담을 가질 것이라고 발표했습니다.

Iraqi forces have formally taken over security responsibilities of southern Muthanna province from British and Australian forces.
The handover took place at a military ceremony in the provincial capital of Samawa today (Thursday).
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nouri called the event a critical step on the path to gaining total control of the country.
Muthanna is the first Iraqi province outside the mostly peaceful Kurdish region to the north to be under complete Iraqi control since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
The White House announced today that President Bush will meet with Prime Minister Maliki in Washington on July 25th.
