유엔 안전보장 이사회는 북한의 미사일 시험 발사와 관련해 일본이 제안한 대 북한 제재 결의안 표결을 연기했습니다.
일본은 우이 중국 국무원 부총리가 북한을 방문해 북한의 핵무기 개발 계획과 관련해 북한을 6자 회담으로 복귀하도록 설득하고 있는 가운데, 10일로 예정됐던 이번 결의안 표결을 연기할 것을 요청했습니다.
콘돌리자 라이스 미국무장관은 중국의 이번 노력에 “어느 정도 희망”이 있다고 말하고, 미국과 일본은 결의안 표결 이전에 어떤 결과가 도출될지 지켜보고자 한다고 말했습니다. 이에 잎서 중국은 결의안에 대한 표결을 취소할 것을 요구한 바 있습니다.
일본은 안전보장이사회 회원국들이 재빨리 대북한 제재조치에 관한 결의안을 통과해 주도록 압력을 가해왔습니다. 하지만 안보리에 거부권을 가지고 있는 중국은 대북한 제재조치를 반대하는 국가들 가운데 하나입니다.

The United Nations Security Council has delayed a vote on a Japanese-sponsored resolution to impose sanctions on North Korea for test-firing missiles.
Japan asked that the vote, which was set for Monday, be postponed while China's vice premier is in North Korea trying to persuade Pyongyang to return to six-party talks on its nuclear programs
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the Chinese mission to North Korea "has some promise," and that the United States and Japan would like to see how it plays out before voting. China earlier requested that the vote be put off.
Japan has been pressuring Security Council members to quickly pass its draft resolution on sanctions. But China, which has veto power on the Council, is among countries opposed to sanctions.
