An al-Qaida-linked insurgent group has posted video footage on the Internet it claims shows the killing of four Russian embassy workers who were abducted in Baghdad earlier this month.
A statement by the group (the Mujahedeen Shura Council) with the video Sunday said the killings were revenge for what it called the "torture and killing our brothers and sisters receive at the hands of Russia's government." Russia's Foreign Ministry said it has not yet independently confirmed the death of the embassy workers or verified the authenticity of the statement.
The four workers were abducted earlier this month in an attack on their car. A fifth Russian was killed in the attack. The Mujahedeen Shura Council had demanded a full withdrawal of troops from the mostly Muslim Russian republic of Chechnya.
