미군과 이라크 군은 소요사태로 불안정한 라마디시의 저항분자들을 고립시키기 위한 작전에 들어갔습니다.
군 관리들은 저항분자들이 물자를 공급받고 병력을 증강시키지 못하도록 시 안팎에 검문소를 설치하고 있다고 말했습니다.
이 같은 작전은 미군과 이라크 군이 실종된 미군 두명이 저항분자들에 의해 납치됐다는 목격자들의 진술에 따라 이들의 행방을 찾기 위해 수색 작전을 강화하고 있는 가운데 나왔습니다.
실종된 미군들과 소속 부대는 지난 16일 바그다드 남부 유수피야 검문소에서 공격을 받았습니다. 당시 공격으로 미군 한명은 사망했습니다.
군 당국은 가능한 수단을 다 동원해 병사들을 찾고 있다고 말했습니다. 또다른 사태 발전으로 이라크 경찰은 무장괴한들이 18일 바그다드 시내 시아파가 주로 살고 있는 동네의 한 제과점에서 근로자 10명을 납치했다고 밝혔습니다.
또한 경찰은 바그다드에서 고문당한 것으로 보이는 적어도 9구의 시신을 발견했습니다.

U.S. and Iraqi forces are moving to isolate insurgents in the volatile city of Ramadi.
Military officials say they are setting up checkpoints in and around the city to prevent the insurgents from getting supplies and re-inforcements.
The operation in Ramadi comes as U.S. and Iraqi forces continued an intense search for two missing American soldiers who witnesses say were captured by insurgents south of Baghdad.
The two where last seen when their team was attacked Friday at a checkpoint in Yusufiyah. One other American soldier was killed in the attack. The military says troops are using all available means to find the soldiers.
In other developments, Iraqi police say gunmen seized 10 workers from a bakery in a predominantly Shi'ite Baghdad neighborhood (today/Sunday). And police found at least nine bodies that showed signs of torture in the capital.
