A new study says that since September 11, 2001, Arab-Americans have a greater fear of racial profiling and an immigrant crackdown than of hate crimes.

The U.S. Justice Department sponsored the survey. It showed Arab-Americans have perceived heightened levels of public suspicion since the terror attacks, and have expressed fear of being targeted by government policies.

About 100 Arab-Americans and more than 100 FBI agents and police officers participated in the two-year study. Its purpose was to explore the relationship between Arab-Americans and law enforcement.

The survey also concluded that since the terrorist attacks, local police and federal agents have strained under pressure to fight terrorism as well as crime. The report found that new federal policies on counter-terrorism were poorly defined and inconsistently applied.
