협정에 따라 인도가 자국의 민간용 핵시설에 대한 국제 사찰을 받는 대가로 미국은 인도에 민간용 핵기술을 판매하게 됩니다. 12일부터 시작된 사흘간의 회담 기간중, 인도와 미국의 협상 대표들은 지난 3월에 공식화된 양국간 핵 협정의 구체적 견해차를 해소하기 위해 노력할 예정입니다.
양국이 이견을 보이고 있는 것 가운데 하나는 미국은 인도의 핵무기 실험금지가 협정에 명시되어야 한다고 말하고 있고 인도는 그 같은 조건에 반대하고 있는 것입니다. 미국과 인도간 핵 협정은 미국회의 승인을 요구하고 있습니다. 그러나 일부 미국회의원들은 협정이 인도에 너무 많이 양보를 하고 있다며 비판하고 있습니다.

Indian and U.S. officials are meeting in New Delhi to work out details of a landmark nuclear cooperation agreement.
Under the deal, Washington has agreed to sell civilian nuclear technology to India in return for New Delhi opening its civilian nuclear reactors to international inspection.
During the three-day talks in New Delhi, which began today (Monday), Indian and U.S. negotiators will try to resolve disagreements about details of the nuclear deal formalized in March. In one dispute, the U.S. says the agreement should prohibit India from testing nuclear weapons, a condition that New Delhi opposes.
The nuclear agreement requires approval by U.S. Congress. Some American lawmakers have criticized the deal, saying it makes too many concessions to India - a country that has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
