이라크 당국자들은 국내 테러 지도자 아부 무사브 알-자르카위가 살해된 뒤를 이어 저항분자들의 보복성 공격을 막기 위한 것이 분명한 가운데 바그다드를 포함해 폭력 사태가 자주 발생하는 북부 지역들에 대해 차량 통행금지령을 내렸습니다.
이라크 내무부는 차량 통행 금지령은 대부분의 이라크 인들이 금요 예배를 드리기 위해 사원을 찾을 때인 현지 시간 오전 11부터 오후 3시 사이에 계속 발효될 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
이라크내 알-카에다인 자르카위 단체는 과거 이라크의 여러 도시들에서 차량 자살 폭탄 공격과 예배 중인 여러 사원들에 대한 공격들을 자행해 왔습니다.
미국과 이라크 관계관들은 앞서 8일 자르카위가 바그다드 동북쪽에 있는 바쿠바 시 부근 한 안가에서 미군의 공습으로 사망했다고 발표했습니다. 미국의 도날드 럼스펠드 장관은 이 공습으로 총 10명이 사망했다고 말했습니다.

Iraqi authorities have imposed a ban on vehicle traffic in Baghdad and restive areas to the north -- apparently to prevent reprisal insurgent attacks following the killing of terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
The Interior Ministry said the ban will remain in effect during the hours (11.00 am to 03.00 pm local time) when most Iraqis go to mosques for Friday prayers.
Zarqawi's group -- al-Qaida in Iraq -- has carried out suicide car bombings and other attacks during religious services in several Iraqi cities in the past.
U.S. and Iraqi officials Thursday announced the death of Zarqawi, killed in a U.S. air strike on a "safe house" near the city of Baqouba, northeast of Baghdad. U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said a total of 10 people were killed in the strike.
Zarqawi's body was identified through fingerprinting, scars and facial recognition. DNA tests are being conducted (at an FBI laboratory in Virginia).
U.S. and Iraqi officials say the killing of Zarqawi is not likely to end the insurgency in Iraq but could help turn the tide against it.
Late Thursday, gunmen abducted a senior official of the Iraqi oil ministry as he was returning home from work.
