베네수엘라 관계관들은 러시아제 AK-103 소총구매는 베네수엘라군이 보유하고 있는 낡은 벨기에제 FAL 소총을 대체하기 위한 것이라고 밝히고 AK-103소총 10만정이 금년 말까지 러시아로부터 인도될 것이라고 말했습니다.
베네수엘라는 또한 러시아제 칼라니쉬코프 소총과 탄환 생산공장을 베네수엘라에 건설할 계획이라고 베네수엘라 관계관들은 덧붙였습니다.
미국은 몇 주일 전에 베네수엘라 정보기관이 이란, 쿠바 등과 연결돼 있다는 이유로 베네수엘라에 대한 무기판매를 금지했습니다.
베네수엘라는 미국의 무기판매 조치가 베네수엘라에 대한 공격의 전조라고 비난하고 베네수엘라가 보유하고 있는 미국제 F-16 젯트 전투기들을 이란 등 다른 나라에 판매하고 러시아제 전투기들을 구입할 수도 있다고 경고했습니다.

Venezuela has received 30-thousand Russian rifles, part of an order of 100-thousand of the weapons scheduled for delivery by the end of the year.
The AK-103 rifles, which officials say will replace aging Belgian (FAL) weapons, arrived Saturday. Authorities also say they plan to set up factories to produce more of the Kalashnikov rifles and ammunition.
Several weeks ago, the United States banned arms sales to the government in Caracas, citing alleged Venezuelan intelligence links to Iran and Cuba. The U.S. also described as overheated rhetoric a Venezuelan claim that the ban is a prelude to an attack on the South American country.
Venezuela, meanwhile, has warned that it could sell its U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets to other countries, such as Iran, while looking to buy more fighters from Russia. Citing agreements, U.S. officials say Washington would not allow such a resale.
