Medical workers on Indonesia's earthquake-battered Java island say they are struggling to treat thousands of injured people who continue to pour into already overcrowded hospitals. Doctors are now performing minor surgeries outside.

In hard-hit Yogyakarta province -- where many of the estimated five-thousand deaths have occurred -- aid workers say they are running short of food, water and medical supplies.

Indonesian officials estimate nearly 200-thousand were made homeless in Saturday's six-point-three magnitude earthquake. Many people are reported to be lining the roads in Yogyakarta, begging for food and supplies.

International aid has began to trickle into the area with relief organizations delivering truckloads of supplies. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is in Yogyakarta, supervising relief efforts. He has appealed for international aid and pledged more than 107 million dollars for reconstruction.
