미군 당국은 이라크 주둔 미 해병대 병력이 두 건의 민간인 학살을 저질러 적어도 열 여섯 명을 살해했다는 주장에 대한 조사에 나섰습니다.
이 사건에 관해 보고를 받은 미국 국회의원들에 따르면 지난 해 11월 이라크 수도, 바그다드 서부 하디타 지구에서 미 해병 1명이 도로변 폭탄공격으로 살해되자 무장하지 않은 무고한 이라크 민간인들을 살해했다는 주장을 뒷받침하는 실증이 있는 것으로 알려졌습니다.
또한 두 번째 민간인 학살은 지난 4월에 역시 바그다드 서부 하만디야 지구에서 미 해병들이 이라크 민간인 한 명을 살해한 것으로 지적됐으며 혐의를 받고 있는 해병들은 직무해제되어 귀국했습니다.

Published reports say a U.S. military investigation is expected to conclude that Marines committed unprovoked murders of civilians in Iraq last November.
The reports quote U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, as saying the evidence suggests the killings of at least 15 Iraqis in the town of Haditha were not justified.
The military investigation has not yet been completed, and its results have not been officially announced.
The military is also investigating a second incident, in April, near Hamandiya, west of Baghdad. Marines allegedly killed one Iraqi civilian there.
