팔레스타인 지도자인 마무드 압바스 자치정부 수반은 21일 이집트에서 이스라엘 고위 당국자들과 만났습니다.
이번 만남은 무장단체 하마스가 지난 3월 팔레스타인 정부의 통제권을 장악한 이후, 양측 간의 최고위급 만남이었습니다.
압바수 수반은 세계 경제 포럼이 열리고 있는 이집트의 홍해 휴양지인 샤름 엘 쉐이크에서 이스라엘의 시몬 페레스 부총리와 치피 리브니 외무장관을 만났습니다.
리브니 외무장관은 회담을 마치고 난 후 기자들에게, 이스라엘은 하마스 주도의 정부를 선택한 팔레스타인 주민들을 처벌할 생각이 없다는 뜻을 압바스 수반에게 전달했다고 말했습니다.
리브니 장관은 이스라엘은 심각해지는 요르단강 서안과 가자 지구의 재정 위기를 완화하기 위해 팔레스타인 주민들로부터 징수한 천 백만 달러의 세금을 팔레스타인 측에 건네 주기로 결정했다고 말했습니다.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has met with top Israeli officials in Egypt, the highest-level meeting between the two sides since the militant Hamas organization took control of the Palestinian government in March.
Mr. Abbas met with Israeli Vice Prime Minister Shimon Peres and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni today (Sunday) on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Israeli foreign minister said she told Mr. Abbas Israel does not intend to punish the Palestinian people for choosing a Hamas-led government. She said Israel had decided to release 11 million dollars in tax money it had withheld from the Palestinians in a bid to ease a deepening fiscal crisis in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
