당국자들은 강변 마을인 일라도에서 12일 송유관이 폭발할 당시 절도범들이 송유관에서 석유를 훔치고 있었다면서, 인근에 있던 500백 여개의 석유통에 금방 불길이 옮겨 붙었다고 말했습니다.
경찰은 정확한 사망자 숫자를 알지 못한다고 말했지만, 라고스 경찰청장은 사망자가 약 150명에서 200명이 될 것이라고 추산했습니다. 나이지리아 적십자의 한 관계자는 시신들이 불에 타 형체를 알아볼 수 없을 정도라면서, 아직 생존자는 발견되지 않았다고 덧붙였습니다.

Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has ordered a full investigation into Friday's pipeline blast that killed as many as 200 people near the commercial capital, Lagos.
Officials today (Saturday) said Mr. Obasanjo also ordered police to increase security near oil pipelines.
Nigerian authorities say vandals were siphoning oil from the pipeline in the waterside village of Ilado when a spark triggered the blast. They say flames quickly ignited dozens of oil cans nearby.
The Lagos police commissioner (Emmanuel Adebayo) estimates that between 150 and 200 people were killed - their bodies burned beyond recognition. Officials say the victims were given a mass burial late Friday.
Theft of gasoline and crude oil from pipelines is common in Nigeria, where the vast majority of people live in poverty despite the nation's oil wealth.
