Incoming Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says his country's future borders will be significantly different from its current boundaries.
Mr. Olmert laid out his vision in a speech to parliament today (Thursday) just hours before lawmakers are expected to approve his new coalition government.
He said Israel needed to rid itself of isolated West Bank Jewish settlements as part of his plan to redraw Israel's borders by 2010. But he stressed that he intends to hold onto several large settlement blocs that are home to tens of thousands of Israelis.
Mr. Olmert said he wants to work with the Palestinians through the "road map" peace plan to draw Israel's final borders but that he is also prepared to act unilaterally if talks fail.
