이같은 조처는 우고 차베스 베네수엘라 대통령이 페루의 대통령 후보인 알란 가르시아씨를 `도둑'으로 지칭하면서 그의 경쟁자인 올란타 후말라씨에 대한 지지의사를 거듭 밝힌 지 하루만에 나온 것입니다.
후말라씨는 5월28일 실시되는 대통령 선거 결선투표에 나서며, 가르시아씨와 경쟁하게 될 것이 분명한 상태입니다.
앞서 차베스 대통령은 만일 가르시아씨가 대통령에 당선되면 페루와의 외교관계를 단절하겠다고 말했습니다.

Peru has withdrawn its ambassador to Venezuela, citing Venezuela's "persistent and flagrant interference in Peru's internal affairs."
The move comes a day after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called Peruvian presidential candidate Alan Garcia "a thief," and again endorsed rival candidate Ollanta Humala. Humala will take part in a presidential runoff election on May 28th, in which Garcia will almost certainly be the other candidate.
In his remarks on Friday, Mr. Chavez said he would cut diplomatic ties with Peru if Garcia was elected president.
