Leaders of the militant Hamas group and the rival Fatah Party have pledged to end tensions between their competing branches of the Palestinian government.
The pledge, announced early today (Sunday) in Gaza City, was brokered by a visiting Egyptian security delegation seeking to ease growing hostilities between Hamas and Fatah.
Hours later, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas ordered Fatah security forces to cancel a mass rally against Hamas in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
