유럽 연합은 최근 대통령 선거에서 압승한 알렉산더 루카쉔코 벨로루시 대통령의 부정 선거 혐의와 관련, 루카쉔코 대통령과 30여명의 관리들에 대한 비자 발급 금지 조치를 내렸습니다.
유럽 연합 관리들은 룩셈브루크에서 10일 이같은 결정을 발표했습니다. 지난 12년간 구소련 공화국 벨로루시를 통치해온 루카쉔코 대통령은, 3월 19일 실시된 대통령 선거에서 83퍼센트의 지지를 얻으며 승리했습니다.
가장 강력한 도전자였던 알렉산더 밀린케비치 후보는 6퍼센트의 지지를 얻는데 그쳤습니다. 이같은 선거 결과는 여러날 동안 야권 주도의 시위를 촉발시켰고, 결국 보안 병력이 진압에 나섰습니다. 수백명의 시위자들이 체포 구속됐습니다.

The European Union has imposed a visa ban on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and 30 other officials in protest of his landslide victory in elections condemned by the West as fraudulent.
EU diplomats announced the decision today (Monday) in Luxembourg.
Mr. Lukashenko, who has ruled the former Soviet republic for the last 12 years, won 83 percent of the vote in the March 19th presidential election. His nearest opposition challenger, Alexander Milinkevich, got six percent.
The election touched off several days of opposition-led protests in Minsk that were eventually quashed by security forces. Hundreds of activists were detained.
