미국은 유엔 안전보장 이사회가 이란의 핵개발 계획에 따른 위협을 다스리지 못할 경우 다른 선택을 추구할 것이라고 미국의 죤 볼튼 유엔주재 대사가 말했습니다.
볼튼 대사는 6일, 미 국무부 출입기자단과의 회견에서 이같이 말하고 미국이 추구하려는 다른 선택에는 이란과 아직도 유지되고 있는 사업관계 단절과 이란에 대한 동맹국들의 여행 및 금융제재 시행 설득 등이 포함돼 있다고 밝혔습니다.
볼튼 대사는 또 이란 핵문제는 유엔 기능의 효율성에 대한 시험케이스가 될 것이라고 말했습니다. 볼튼 대사는 그러나 이란 핵문제에 관한 분쟁을 해결하는 관건은 이란 지도자들이 쥐고 있다고 지적했습니다.

The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations says the United States will pursue other options if the Security Council fails to deal with the threat posed by Iran's nuclear program.
John Bolton says those options include cutting the remaining U.S. business links with Iran and convincing American allies to impose travel and financial sanctions on Iran.
Bolton spoke to State Department correspondents in Washington today (Thursday).
He added that Iran is a test case for the effectiveness of the United Nations. But he says the key to solving the problem over Iran's nuclear program lies in the hands of Iranian leaders. The United States accuses Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons -- a charge Iran denies.
