죠지 부쉬 미국 대통령은 이라크 정치인들이 단합된 정부를 구성할 때가 됐다고 촉구했습니다. 부쉬 대통령은 이라크의 새로운 정부 구성이 하루 지연되면 이라크에서 폭력이 하루 더 계속된다고 경고하면서 이같이 촉구했습니다.
이보다 앞서 콘돌리사 라이스 미 국무장관도 바그다드를 방문한 가운데 영국의 잭 스트로우 외무장관과 함께 이라크 정치 지도자들에게 단합된 정부를 조속히 구성하라고 촉구했습니다.
이라크의 시아파와 쿠르드족, 수니파 등 파벌 지도자들은 새로운 총선거에 따른 정부구성을 위해 넉 달 동안이나 협상을 벌이고 있으나 의회의 의장직을 누가 맡도록 하느냐에 관해서도 아직 합의를 이루지 못하고 있습니다.
한편, 이라크 수도, 바그다드와 북부도시 사마라에서 폭탄공격이 벌어져 적어도 아홉 사람이 살해되고 30여명이 다쳤다고 이라크 경찰이 말했습니다.

Iraqi prosecutors have announced a second trial for Saddam Hussein, to address charges of genocide and crimes against humanity for a 1980s campaign against Iraq's Kurdish minorities.
The Iraq tribunal says it has completed investigations of the so-called Anfal campaign, charging Saddam and six others for crimes including the infamous gassing of thousands of civilians in the village of Halabja.
Human rights groups say the Anfal campaign left about 180-thousand people dead.
The new trial could start as early as next month. Saddam's current trial for the 1982 killing of 148 Shi'ites is scheduled to resume Wednesday.
In Washington, President Bush said it is time for Iraqi politicians to form a unity government. He said every day of delay is another day of violence in the war-torn country.
