부쉬 대통령은 테일러씨를 체포한데 대해 감사를 나타내면서 이번 일은 역내 평화에 대한 오바산조 대통령의 공약을 보여주는 것이라고 말했습니다.
오바산조 대통령은 앞서 테일러씨가 나이지리아 남부에 소재한 거처에서 사라진 뒤 제기된 나이지리아 정부에 대한 비판을 일축했습니다.
한편, 코피 아난 사무총장 등 유엔 고위 관리들과 인권단체들은 찰스 테일러 전 나이지리아 대통령 체포를 환영했습니다.
아난 총장은 뉴욕에서의 연설에서 테일러씨 체포 소식은 큰 위안이라면서 이번 일은 잘못에 대한 면죄부는 있을 수 없으며 전쟁군벌들은 대가를 치를 것이란 강력한 메시지를 아프리카에 보낸 것이라고 말했습니다.
루이스 아버 유엔 고등인권판무관은 시에라리온에서 테일러씨가 지원하는 반군이 저지른 잔악행위에 대해 테일러씨를 처벌하기 위한 조처가 신속히 취해져야 한다고 말했습니다.
이밖에 인권단체들도 시에라리온 특별법원에서 테일러씨를 전범으로 재판하는 것은 화해를 위해 중요한 일이라며 기대를 나타냈습니다

United Nations officials in Monrovia have taken custody of former Liberian President Charles Taylor and sent him to a war crimes court in Sierra Leone.
Taylor was transferred to a U.N. helicopter in the Liberian capital today (Wednesday) shortly after arriving from Nigeria.
Nigerian officials said President Olusegun Obasanjo had ordered that Taylor be handed over shortly after he was detained while trying to flee into Cameroon. The news came as Mr. Obasanjo held talks with President Bush at the White House.
President Bush expressed his appreciation for Taylor's capture, saying it was a sign of Mr. Obasanjo's commitment to peace in the region.
Mr. Obasanjo rejected criticism that his government had been "negligent" after Taylor disappeared from his home in southern Nigeria one day earlier.
meanwhile, Top United Nations officials and human rights groups are praising the capture of Liberia's former president Charles Taylor.
Speaking in New York today (Wednesday), U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan called the news "a great relief." He said Taylor's capture sends a powerful message to the region that impunity will not be allowed to stand and that would-be warlords will pay a price.
The U.N.'s high commissioner for human rights (Louise Arbour) called for quick action to hold the former president accountable for atrocities committed by a band of rebels he supported in Sierra Leone.
Several rights groups also hailed Taylor's capture, calling his expected trial by the Special Court for war crimes in Sierra Leone an important part of that country's healing process.
