The Basque separatist group ETA has issued a new statement reaffirming its intention to begin a permanent ceasefire on Friday.
A statement published today (Thursday) in the Basque newspaper Gara says the ceasefire will take effect at midnight Friday morning (2300 UTC Thursday). Gara is a daily that often carries ETA announcements.
ETA announced the ceasefire in a televised statement Wednesday.
Today's (Thursday's) statement called on French and Spanish authorities to respond positively to the separatist group's ceasefire announcement and urged all parts of Basque society to move from words to action by getting involved in the process.
