Iraqi security forces have found the bodies of 15 men in an abandoned vehicle in western Baghdad -- raising to at least 60 the number of victims of apparent sectarian reprisal attacks during the past 24 hours. Security officials say the bodies found today (Tuesday) had their hands and feet bound.
The victims had been strangled. Other corpses were found in different areas of Baghdad on Monday, including four hanging from electricity poles in Sadr City, a mainly Shi'ite district. The latest killings took place following a series of bomb blasts in Sadr City on Sunday that killed at least 46 people and wounded more than 200 others.
President Jalal Talabani says terrorists trying to trigger all-out civil war in Iraq are taking advantage of the country's political stalemate, caused by the lack of progress in forming a new government. Mr. Talabani has urged political groups to speed up their efforts on forming a national unity government.
