부쉬 대통령은 미군은 계속 이라크 보안군을 훈련시키고 있으며 보안군은 현재 130개 대대에 달한다고 말했습니다. 부쉬 대통령은 또 연합군 훈련교관들은 이라크의 특정 종파에 충성하는 것으로 의심되는 사람들을 제외하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
최근 여론조사 결과에 따르면 미국인들은 공화당원 70%를 포함해 5명 중 4명이 이라크가 내전에 휘말릴 것으로 보고 있습니다.
한편, 자랄 탈라바니 이라크 대통령은 내전을 부추기는데 혈안이 된 테러분자들이 정치적 교착상태에 빠진 새로운 정부 구성 협상을 활용하고 있다고 말했습니다.
탈라바니 대통령은 바그다드의 시아파 지역에서 일련의 폭탄 공격으로 최소한 46명이 사망하고 2백여명이 부상한 지 하루만인 13일 이같이 밝히고, 각 정당이 연립정부 구성 노력에 박차를 가할 것을 촉구했습니다.
이밖에 시아파의 급진적인 성직자인 모크타다 알-사드르씨도 진정을 호소하면서, 12일 발생한 폭탄 공격을 저지른 것으로 의심되는 수니파 과격분자들에 대한 보복을 지시하지 않을 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 사드르씨는 보복은 이라크를 내전으로 내몰 것이라고 말했습니다.

President Bush say Iraq's security forces are growing in size and becoming more capable as they gain the trust of Iraqi civilians.
In the first in a series of speeches marking the three-year anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, Mr. Bush says Iraq's police and military forces recently played a critical role in preventing the country from slipping into
anarchy following the bombing of the sacred Shi'ite mosque in Samarra.
Speaking at a university (George Washington University) in Washington, Mr. Bush says U.S. forces continue to train Iraq's security forces, which now number some 130 battalions. He says coalition trainers are also weeding
out those suspected of loyalties to the country's sectarian militias.
Recent public opinion polls indicate most Americans believe Iraq will disintegrate into civil war.
The president today (Monday) acknowledged Iraq's recent violence and sectarian reprisal attacks, but says he sees signs of a hopeful future.
Meanwhile, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani says terrorists bent on starting civil war are taking advantage of a political stalemate caused by stalled negotiations to form a new government.
Mr. Talabani spoke Monday, a day after a string of bombs killed at least 46 people and wounded more than 200 others in a Shi'ite area of Baghdad. He urged political parties to speed up efforts to form a coalition government.
Hours earlier, radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr called for calm and said he will not order his militia to strike back at Sunni militants suspected in Sunday's bombings. He said retaliation would drag Iraq into civil war.
The attacks raised fears of Shi'ite reprisals just weeks after the bombing of a major Shi'ite shrine sparked days of deadly violence between Iraq's Shi'ites and Sunnis.
