미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무 장관은 이란이 미국에 대한 제 1의 도전이 될지도 모른다고 말하고 있습니다. 라이스 국무 장관은 9일 미국 상원 세출 위원회에서 행한 증언에서 이란의 핵 계획과 반 이스라엘 과격 세력에 대한 지원, 그리고 이란의 이웃 이라크에 대한 간섭을 부쉬 행정부는 우려한다며 이같이 말했습니다.
라이스 장관의 이 같은 증언은, 이란의 최고 지도자 아야톨라 알리 하메네이가 이란은 핵 기술에 대한 추구를 멈추지않을 것이라고 말한지 몇시간 뒤에 나왔습니다.
아야톨라 알리 하메네이는 또, 미국 관계관들이 이란의 성직자 통치차들을 훼손하려하고있다고 주장했습니다.
앞서 8일, 국제 원자력 기구의 35개국 이사회는 이란이 우라늄 농축 계획을 재개하고있다고 유엔 안전 보장 이사회에 보고했습니다.
유엔 안보리는 이란의 핵 활동이, 미국과 유럽 연합의 주장대로 핵 확산 금지 조약을 위반하는 것으로 판명될 경우 제재를 가할 수도 있습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has told a U.S. Senate committee that Iran may pose the number one challenge to the United States.
In testimony to the Senate Appropriations Committee, Rice cited administration concerns about Iran's nuclear program, its support for anti-Israeli militants, and its alleged meddling in neighboring Iraq.
Rice's testimony (Thursday) came hours after Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said his country will not halt its push for nuclear technology. He alleged that U.S. officials are seeking to undermine Iran's clerical rulers.
On Wednesday, the 35-nation board of the International Atomic Energy Agency reported Iran to the United Nations Security Council for restarting its uranium enrichment program.
The Security Council could impose sanctions if it finds that Iran's nuclear activities violate the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which the United States and the European Union allege.
