모하메드 엘바라데이 국제원자력기구 사무총장은 논란 많은 이란 핵 계획에 대한 제재가 불필요한 것으로 만들 합의를 이란과 볼 수 있을 것으로 낙관한다고 말하고 있습니다.
엘바라데이 사무 총장은 유엔 안전 보장 이사회의 이란에 대한 행동의 서곡이 될지도 모르는 국제원자력기구의 6일 이사회를 바로 앞두고 이같이 말했습니다.
엘바라데이 사무 총장은 이 같은 합의가 일주일 내 이루어질 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다고 말했습니다. 그러나, 미국 외교관들은, 이란 측이 협력에 나서 국제 원자력 기구, IAEA 사찰 요원들에게 자체 핵 계획에 완전히 접근하도록 허용할 태세로 있다는 시사는 전혀 없다고 말하고 있습니다.
한편, 이란의 마흐무드 아매디네자드 대통령은 테헤란에서 서방 국가들이 핵 문제에 관해 이란 정부에 계속 압력을 가한다면, 더 이상의 문제를 야기시킬 것이라고 경고했습니다.

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency says he is optimistic an agreement can be reached with Iran to make sanctions over its controversial nuclear program unnecessary.
Mohamed ElBaradei spoke ahead of today's (Monday's) I.A.E.A board meeting that may be a prelude to the United Nations Security Council taking action against Iran.
ElBaradei says he is hopeful a deal can be reached within a week. But U.S. diplomats say there has been no indication Iran is ready to cooperate and allow I.A.E.A. inspectors complete access to its nuclear program.
Speaking in Tehran, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned Western nations will create further problems if they continue to pressure his government on the nuclear issue.
