South Korea has defeated Japan while Taiwan topped China in their final first round games at the inaugural World Baseball Classic in Tokyo.
A crowd of more than 40 thousand saw Lee Seung-yeop smack a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning Sunday, to power South Korea to a 3-2 win over Japan in the final Group A game.
South Korea finished with a perfect 3-0 record in the opening round while Japan was 2-1. Both teams had already qualified for the second round of the 16-nation tournament and will travel to Anaheim, California, to play the top two teams from Group B, which includes the United States, Canada, Mexico and South Africa.
