이라크의 정치 지도자들과 회교 지도자들은 22일에 일어난 시아파 회교 사원 폭탄공격에 이은 양 종파간 폭력사태가 내전으로 확대되는 것을 우려해 자제하도록 촉구하고 있으나 이미 수니파 회교 사원 수 십 곳이 공격당했습니다.
이라크 북부 사마라 지역의 시아파 성소인 아스카리야 사원이 22일 폭탄테러 공격으로 파괴된데 이어 수도 바그다드 일원에서 수 십구의 사체가 발견됐다고 이라크 경찰이 밝혔습니다. 바그다드 외곽지대에서도 총격으로 살해된 마흔 일곱 구의 사체가 발견됐습니다.
사마라 인근에서는 두바이 본부를 둔 알 아라비야 텔레비전 방송소속의 기자 세 명이 총격살해됐습니다.
이라크 남부지역의 항구도시 바스라에서는 이라크 경찰복장으로 위장한 무장자들이 형무소 한 곳을 습격해 외국인 전사들을 포함해 수니파 수감자 열 한 명을 살해했습니다.
이라크 수니파 주요 정치연합체인 이라크화합전선, IAF는 이번 사태를 논의하기 위해 잘랄 탈라바니 대통령이 소집한 다수 정당간 회의에 참석하지 않는다고 밝히고 새로운 정부구성 협상을 보이콧했습니다.
한편, 죠지 부쉬 미국 대통령은 이라크 아스카리야 사원 폭탄테러는 이라크에서 내전을 일으키려는 의도로 자행된 정치적 테러라고 규탄했습니다. 부쉬 대통령은 23일, 기자들의 질문에 이같이 규탄하면서 미국은 시아파 회교의 성소인 아스카리야 사원의 복구를 지원할 것이라고 다짐했습니다.
그러나 시아파 회교도가 다수인 이란의 마흐무드 아흐마디네자드 대통령은 아스카리야 사원 파괴가 서방측의 소행이라고 주장하고 이스라엘과 미국 같은 나라들이 회교도들의 분노의 표적이 될 것이라고 텔레비전 방송연설로 경고했습니다.

More than 130 Iraqis -- most of them Sunni Arabs -- have been killed in two days of surging sectarian violence following Wednesday's bombing of one of the holiest sites in Shi'ite Islam.
Dozens of Sunni mosques have been attacked despite calls from Iraqi political and religious leaders who fear civil war.
Police found dozens of bodies in and around Baghdad overnight after attackers blew up the Askariya mosque in Samarra. Outside Baghdad, authorities found the bodies of 47 people shot to death.
Near Samarra, gunmen killed three journalists working for Dubai-based Al Arabiya television network. Press rights group Reporters Without Borders condemned the killing of the three, who had been reporting from the scene of the mosque attack.
In the southern city of Basra, gunmen dressed in police uniforms raided a prison and killed 11 Sunni detainees, including several foreign militants.
A major Sunni political alliance (the Iraqi Accordance Front) says it will not attend a multi-party meeting President Jalal Talabani has called to discuss the situation, and will boycott talks on forming the next government.
Meanwhile, President Bush has condemned the Wednesday bombing of Iraq's Askariya mosque, saying it was a political act intended to cause civil strife in the nation.
Speaking to reporters today (Thursday) at the White House, the president stressed that the U.S. is committed to help rebuild the Shi'ite Muslim shrine.
Insurgents are believed to be responsible for the attack that destroyed the mosque's gold dome.
But in a speech broadcast today (Thursday) on Iranian state television, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad blamed western nations for the destruction. Mr. Ahmadinejad also warned that countries such as Israel and the U.S. would be targets for Muslim anger.
Iran is a majority Shi'ite Muslim nation.
In Iraq, some Sunni and Shi'ite leaders appealed for calm, saying the attack was intended to inflame religious or political tensions.
