지난 19일 멕시코 북부 탄광 폭발 사고로 갇혀있는 65명의 광부 구조 작업을 돕기 위해 일단의 미국 전문가들이 21일 현지에 도착할 것으로 보입니다.
구조 대원들은 사고가 발생한 코아우일라주 파스타 데 콘초스 탄광에서 손 연장으로 잔해들을 제거하고 있습니다. 탄광 내부는 가스로 초래된 폭발 사고로 매몰됐습니다.
관계관들은 동력 장비를 사용할 경우 또다른 폭발을 촉발시키지 않을까 우려하고 있습니다.
한편 매몰된 65명 광부 가족들은 혹독한 추위를 무릅쓰고 광부들에 관한 소식을 애타게 기다리며 탄광 밖에서 밤샘을 하고 있습니다.
이들 광부는 탄광 입구에서 3킬로미터 쯤 떨어진 지점에서 매몰된 것으로 믿어지고 있으며 관계관들은 이들이 제한된 양의 비상 산소를 휴대하고 있다고 말하고 있습니다.

A team of experts from the U.S. will arrive in northern Mexico today (Tuesday) to assist in the efforts to rescue 65 miners who have been trapped since an explosion on Sunday.
Rescue crews are using hand tools to clear away the debris at the Pasta de Conchos mine in Coahuila [pron. co-a-WEE-la] state. Sunday's explosion was caused by gas trapped inside the mine. Officials fear using power machinery could spark another blast.
Mexico's National Miners Union is calling for an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Relatives of the 65 miners continue to hold vigil outside the mine, braving bitterly cold weather as they anxiously wait for any news about their loved ones.
The miners are believed to be about three kilometers from the mine's entrance. Officials say they were carrying a limited amount of emergency oxygen.
