A new study by U.S. scientists says warm temperatures are causing glaciers in Greenland to dump massive amounts of ice into the Atlantic Ocean, contributing to a rise in sea levels.
The study in the new issue of the journal "Science," says satellite pictures of southern Greenland show the amount of glacial ice sliding into the sea has more than doubled since 1996. The study says that last year Greenland lost 200 times the amount of water the city of Los Angeles uses in one year.
The scientists say they believe a rise in surface air temperatures is causing the glaciers to diminish and say experts have underestimated the future rise in sea levels.
