회교 예언자 마호메트 풍자만평에 항의하는 시위가 파키스탄에서 나흘째 계속됐습니다.
파키스탄 남부 카라치에서는 16일, 적어도 만명의 시위자들이 도심을 행진하며 시위를 벌였으나, 폭력사태가 발생했다는 보도는 없습니다.
앞서 사흘동안에는 시위가 폭력사태로 치달아, 15일에는 페샤와르와 라호레에서 8세의 어린이를 포함해 세명이 숨졌고, 14일에는 라호레에서 두명이 숨진 바 있습니다.
파키스탄의 페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령은, 이같은 폭력시위 사태를 규탄하고, 일부 세력이 시위를 이용해, 폭력사태를 조장하고 있다고 말했습니다.

Thousands of Pakistanis are in a fourth day of protests over satirical cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. At least 10-thousand people are marching in the southern city of Karachi today (Thursday).
But unlike the previous three days, there are no reports of violence. At least three people were killed Wednesday, including an eight-year-old boy, when demonstrations turned into riots in Peshawar and Lahore. Two people were killed Tuesday in Lahore when a protest became violent.
President Pervez Musharraf has condemned the rioting and warned that some people are exploiting the situation to create violence. The Muhammad cartoons, which first appeared in Denmark five months ago and later reprinted in several European newspapers triggered violent Muslim protests across Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
