China says it has shut down 76 web sites in a four-month campaign to tackle music and film piracy.
Speaking today (Wednesday) in Beijing, Yan Xiaohong, the deputy director of China's National Copyright Administration, said the agency investigated 172 cases of suspected Internet piracy during a campaign that ended in December. Several cases involving serious violations were reported to Chinese authorities by foreign companies.
Intellectual-property violations are a top concern for many of China's trading partners, including the United States. Washington has accused China of not doing enough to tackle piracy by some of the country's 110 million Internet users.
