회교예언자 마흐메트를 풍자한 말썽많은 만화들에 대한 회교도들의 분노가 진정되지 않는 가운데 14일 파키스탄 경찰은 두 주요도시에서 만여명 시위자들과 충돌해 두명이 사망하고 여러명이 부상했습니다.
파키스탄의 아화브 칸 세르파오 내무장관은 공안군병력이 은행에 진입하려는 시위자들에게 발포했다면서 그같은 사망자 발생을 확인했습니다. 라호르당국자들은 미국의 대 연쇄기업, 맥도날드와 KFC, 피자허트분점들과 할리데이 인 호텔을 포함해 서방측 사업체들에 폭도들이 돌을 던지며 공격했다고 말했습니다.
이들 시위자들은 그밖에 차량들을 파손하고 놀웨이 이동전화회사도 약탈했습니다. 수도 이슬라마바드에서도 경찰은 삼엄한 경비가 취해지고 있는 외교공관지역에 진입하려는 시위자들을 가로막기 위해 공포탄을 발사했습니다. 파키스탄국회의원들은 주요 시가지에서 침묵의 시위를 벌였습니다.

Two people were killed today (Tuesday) and several others wounded in the Pakistani city of Lahore, where more than 10-thousand people flooded the streets, protesting the controversial cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. Pakistan's Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao confirmed the deaths, saying a security guard fired on demonstrators trying to force their way into a bank.
Officials say stone-throwing mobs also attacked U.S. targets, including several McDonald's, K-F-C and Pizza Hut outlets and the Holiday Inn hotel. Hundreds of people ransacked a Norwegian mobile phone company before police used tear gas to disperse them.
Police in the capital, Islamabad, stopped demonstrators from entering the closely guarded diplomatic district. Pakistani lawmakers staged a silent march down the city's main road.
