레바논인 수만여명이 14일 베이루트 중심부의 광장에 모여 라피크 하리리 전 총리 암살 1주기를 기렸습니다.
이들은 아침부터 레바논 국기와 하리리 전 총리의 사진을 흔들면서 하리리씨와 다른 20명이 대규모 차량폭발 사고로 살해된 광장에 모여시리아에 반대하는 구호를 외쳤습니다. 지난해 2월14일 발생한 암살사건은 레바논인들의 분노를 촉발하면서 레바논 주둔 시리아군의 철수를 불러왔습니다.
유엔의 조사결과는 하리리씨 암살에 시리아가 개입했음을 시사하고 있습니다. 암살된 하리리씨의 아들 사드 하리리씨는 이날 수개월 만에 레바논으로 돌아와 부친을 기리는 행사에 참석했습니다.
사드씨는 이날을 기념해 모든 레바논인들이 일치단결할 것을 촉구했습니다. 친 시리아계 시아파 이슬람 집단인 헤즈볼라와 아말은 이날 시위에 참가하지 않았습니다.

Tens of thousands of Lebanese gathered at a central Beirut square today (Tuesday) to mark the first anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. From mid-morning, people waving Lebanese flags and Mr. Hariri's pictures began arriving at the square, where the former prime minister and 20 others were killed in a massive car bombing.
The demonstrators shouted anti-Syrian slogans. The February 14, 2005 attack sparked a public outcry that led to the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon. A United Nations investigation that is still under way has implicated Syria in Mr. Hariri's death. The slain leader's son, Saad Hariri, has returned to Lebanon for the first time in months to attend ceremonies honoring his father.
He urged all Lebanese to adopt what he called "a historic position of unity" to mark the anniversary. The main pro-Syrian Shi'ite Muslim groups, Hezbollah and Amal, are not taking part in the demonstrations.
