중국에서 에이즈 사망자가 계속 증가해 B 형 감염 사망자를 제치고 세번째로 사망율이 높은 질병으로 나타났습니다. 관영 신화 통신은 13일 중국 위생부의 보고서를 인용해 이같이 전하고 사망자수가 가장 높은 5대 질병은 폐결핵과 광견병, 에이즈, B형 감염, 그리고 신생아 파상풍 이라고 보도했습니다.
위생부 보고서는 질병 감염으로 인한 사망자가 작년에 1만 3천명을 기록해 전년보다 거의 두배나 증가했다고 말했습니다.
이 보고서는 그러나 각 질병당 구체적인 사망자수와 질병 사망자가 급증한 원인에 대해서는 설명하지 않았습니다.
이 보고서는 또한 지난달 유엔과 중국 위생부가 공동으로 발표한 에이즈 관련 보고서 내용과 일치하지 않는 것으로 나타났습니다.
이 공동 보고서는 중국에서 작년도 에이즈 감염 사망자수가 2만 5천여명이라고 추산하고 매년 7만여명의 새로운 감염자가 발생하고 있다고 말한 바 있습니다.

China's Xinhua news agency quotes a report by the country's Health Ministry as saying AIDS has now overtaken hepatitis B as being the third deadliest infectious disease in China.
Xinhua says the top five infectious disease killers in the country were tuberculosis, rabies, AIDS, hepatitis B and tetanus in newborns.
The report also says 13-thousand people died in China last year from infectious diseases -- almost twice the number as the year before.
The report, issued Monday, did not specify how many people died from each disease, however, nor did it explain the reason for the dramatic jump in deaths.
The report contradicts a paper jointly issued by the United Nations and Chinese health authorities last month that said an estimated 25-thousand deaths occurred in China from AIDS alone in 2005.
That paper said AIDS infections are on the rise in China, with 70-thousand new cases occurring in 2005.
