세계에서 이슬람 교도 가장 많은 국가인 인도네시아에서는 자카르타 주재 덴마크 대사관 앞에서 시위가 벌어졌습니다.
인도네시아 외무장관은 전 세계의 과격 단체들이 마호메트 풍자 만평에 대한 일반 이슬람 교도들의 분노를 악용하고 있다고 지적했습니다. 하싼 위라주다 외무장관은 최근의 폭력 시위는 이슬람 교도들과 나머지 세계 사이의 긴장을 고조시키려는 과격 분자들을 돕는 일이 될 뿐이라고 말했습니다.

The United Nations, the European Union and the Organization of the Islamic Conference called for calm Tuesday amid growing anger over published cartoons depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammad as a terrorist. Amy Katz reports.
NARRATOR:
Protesters across the Muslim world are angry about the cartoons, first published in a Danish newspaper, and have taken to the streets to show it. With some of the protests becoming increasingly violent, the U.N., the E.U., and the Islamic Conference are appealing for calm -- saying that "aggression against life and property can only damage the image of a peaceful Islam."
(NO ACCESS DENMARK) The Prime Minister of Denmark -- Anders Fogh Rasmussen -- says the protests could spin out of control.
ANDERS FOGH RASMUSSEN:
"We are today facing a growing global crisis that has the potential to escalate beyond the control of governments and other authorities. Right now, radicals, extremists and fanatics are adding fuel to the flames in order push forward their own agenda."

The Prime Minister also says he has spoken with U.S. President George W. Bush -- who offered his support. (END NO ACCESS DENMARK)
But anger over the cartoons is increasingly spilling into the streets of many cities in the Muslim world.
In Afghanistan, protesters attack a NATO base demonstrating against the cartoons. At least four participants are killed and at least four NATO soldiers are wounded. Several protesters are also hurt in nearby Indian Kashmir.
In Pakistan, women and children are part of a group protesting the controversial cartoons.
(NO ACCESS PHILIPPINES) In the Philippines, Muslim protesters burn Denmark's flag and display banners reading "Danish go home" and "Danish enemy of Islam." (END NO ACCESS PHILIPPINES)
In Indonesia -- the world's most populous Muslim country -- demonstrators rally at the Danish embassy in Jakarta.
In Iran, protesters gather at the Norwegian embassy, setting fires and throwing stones.
(NO ACCESS IRAN) The country's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khameni says the protests are not against Christians but rather are against the "malicious hands which are playing upon the politicians of the world." (END NO ACCESS IRAN)
In what may seem like retaliation for the cartoons, a major Iranian newspaper (Hamshahri) says it will hold a contest for the best cartoon of the Holocaust -- in which six-million Jews were killed during World War II.
U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack condemns such a contest.
SEAN McCORMACK:
"Any attempt to mock or to in any way denigrate the horror of the Holocaust is simply outrageous."
NARRATOR:
As for the escalating protests, Mr. McCormack stresses the U.S. is calling for tolerance and understanding -- and is urging all governments to defuse the tension and encourage calm and dialogue -- not misunderstanding.
